Without Holon Publish, publishing courses in Canvas requires opening each course individually. For institutions with hundreds or thousands of courses, this is impractical. Holon Publish loads all courses for a selected term and lets you act on them all at once.
Navigate to Courses in the sidebar. Use the Term dropdown to load all courses for a specific enrollment term. Admins see all courses in the account; instructors see only courses they teach.
| Filter | Description |
|---|---|
| Term | Load courses for a specific enrollment term. Leave blank to search across all terms. |
| Sub-account | Scope the course list to a specific department or sub-account. |
| Status | Show all courses, published only, or unpublished only. |
| Search | Filter by course name or code. When no term is selected, searches across all courses in the account via the Canvas API. |
| Hide 0-student courses | Remove courses with no enrolled students from the list. |
The Sub-account dropdown lists all sub-accounts in your Canvas instance. Selecting one scopes the entire course list — and the stat cards — to that department only.
This is useful for department administrators who need to publish courses for their area without affecting other departments. Combine with a Term filter for precise targeting.
Select courses and click ⏰ Schedule. An inline panel expands above the action bar — choose Publish or Unpublish, then set a date and time in your Canvas timezone.
The scheduler checks every 60 seconds for pending actions and executes them automatically. When complete, you receive a Canvas Inbox notification with the results (succeeded / failed counts and course names).
View and cancel pending scheduled actions from the Scheduled tab in the sidebar.
After any bulk publish or unpublish, an Undo bar appears at the bottom of the screen. Click Undo within 60 seconds to reverse the entire batch — all courses are returned to their previous state instantly.
Every publish and unpublish action is recorded with the course name, action type, user who performed it, and timestamp. The last 100 actions are shown in the Publish History tab.
Use ↓ Export CSV on the Courses page to download the current filtered course list for reporting or registrar use.
The Analytics tab shows summary counts: total publishes, total unpublishes, unique courses affected, and the date of the last action. The 20 most recent actions are shown in a table below the summary cards.
Click ↓ Export CSV in the Courses view to download the currently filtered course list. Columns include: Course Name, Course Code, Status, Student Count, and Term. The export respects all active filters.
| License Type | Course Access | Who Can Use It |
|---|---|---|
| Individual | Limited to 10 courses | Single user only |
| Institutional | Unlimited courses | All users at the institution |
Individual licenses are intentionally capped at 10 courses to prevent a single user from purchasing an individual license and using it institution-wide. If your institution needs to publish more than 10 courses, an institutional license is required.
Institutional licenses give every instructor and administrator at your institution unlimited access — no per-user fees.
Holon Publish lets you publish or unpublish Canvas courses in bulk
